June sees festival season start in earnest and whilst the headliners pull in the initial interest, for me a festival is about discovering something new that you wouldn’t necessarily listen to. So with that in mind check out the tunes below and you might just discover your next favourite band!
Bipolar Sunshine – Blossom
Bipolar Sunshine is the new project from Manchester’s Adio Marchant, the vocalist from Kid British who split last year. This track is taken from the debut EP Aesthetics released in June and is available on iTunes Go over to the facebook page and you can get Blossom as a free download in return for a like.
No One Sun – All We Rely On Is Stolen
ALBL favourites No One Sun have released this video to go with album title track All We Rely On Is Stolen. An unashamedly big anthemic sound, a hint of US rock combined with British indie melody. The guys will be playing live later in the summer, check out the full album review here
The Sea The Sea – The Winter Parade
Oxford outfit The Sea The Sea recently released their debut EP Four Demos having formed in 2012 the band have progressed quickly, attracting the attentions of BBC Introducing Oxford and playing the opening slot for Tall Ships. Check out the rest of the EP here
Wonky Doll and the Echo – The Cut
The wonderfully named Wonky Doll and the Echo have released their first music video The Cut taken from the debut album Pleasant Thoughts released last year. A haunting post-punk sound that is full of atmosphere and intrigue.
High Violet – Wheels
Recently formed Liverpool outfit High Violet have a promising future if this track is anything to go by. Well crafted and full of soul that has a unique timeless sound to it. Keep an eye out for these guys.
KynchinLay – Public Execution
Another Liverpool band here which I have to credit the great Ralph’s Life blog for putting me on to. A dark, driving post-punk sound that draws influence from Smashing Pumpkins to Echo and the Bunnymen.
The Bluebeat Arkestra – Zero
Here’s an interesting track from Birmingham 6-piece The Bluebeat Arkestra a hunting piano led track that has an early 90’s Portishead trip-hop feel to it.
Crystal Seagulls – Time
This is a new track from London 4-piece Crystal Seagulls, who recently won the Isle Of Wight unsigned band competition and played a set at the festival. This is a really catchy tune that has summer anthem written all over it.
