It’s the end of the month and time for another round-up of the great new tunes that have been rocking ALBL towers. If you like what you hear go and buy the music or get to a gig, the bands need your support in order to continue.
The Relays – Last Night She Said
I’ve been keeping an eye on these guys since catching them live a couple of months ago and this is the recently released debut single that’s been getting rave reviews. A perfect indie disco track with an infectious rhythm, big guitar riff, electro elements and an insanely catchy chorus! Out now on iTunes along with a nice remix.
Heavy Petting Zoo – Broken Bone
New single from Swansea 4-piece Heavy Petting Zoo and as the band describe it, their take on the surf rock genre, whilst there are hints of the West Coast this isn’t the Beach Boys! Think more high energy garage rock and blues with Alison Mosshart style vocals. There is also a gem of a B side Hunger which in my opinion is even better than the single! Available to buy now here
Neotropics – Reflections
This is the latest release from Bristol outfit Neotropics, taking the 80’s synth pop sound and bringing it bang up to date with chunky dub-step inspired rhythms, soaring guitars and great harmonies to create a huge sounding anthem of a track. Out now on iTunes
Kassoma – Arrows
Lead track from the recently released EP Natural Selection from up and coming Manchester band Kassoma. Setting down a bold marker Arrows is centred around an angular guitar melody with a great confidently delivered vocal. Look out for a full EP review coming up soon on ALBL
High Violet – Iron Net
Wirral based High Violet release their debut double A side single Iron Net & Wheels. The latter track featured back on June’s playlist and now gets a full release along side this months playlisted track. Showing a real mature song writing ability with a timeless sound that incorporates great melodies and harmonies. One to keep an eye on in 2014 the single is available now here via Porcupine Records.
The Ninth Watch – Dead Man Walking
The Ninth Watch are back with new material and it’s sounding good. This is Dead Man Walking a riot of a track with a great driving bass line and monster of a guitar riff, nice to have the Manchester lads back.
Breton – Envy
Not set for release until January this will be the new single from London band Breton and is a precursor to the forthcoming second album War Room Stories which is due for release in February 2014. Flying in the face of winter Envy brings a slab of sunshine into our lives with it’s uplifting synths and calypso sounds. It’s no surprise these guys have supported Foals expect big things next year.
Gaz Coombes – Buffalo
Best know for fronting Oxford’s Brit-Pop outfit Supergrass now flying solo Gaz Coombes is back with album number one, Here Come The Bombs, already in the bag and a second already in the pipe-line. This is a new track called Buffalo and continues his evolving sound with down-tempo electro noises along side soaring strings and achingly beautiful vocals.
